
The fire in Porter Ranch was extinguished within minutes as an elderly couple was taken to the hospital. LAFD firefighters tackled a structure fire at a one-story home on 10900 N Key West Ave. in the Porter Ranch neighborhood, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire, which was initially reported at approximately 5:17 p.m. on Tuesday, showed visible flames when responders arrived on the scene, according to an LAFD alert.
Despite the rapid spread of the fire, which engulfed the attached garage and filled the residence with smoke, the firefighting team engaged in an offensive mode to combat the blaze — firefighters responded quickly to the incident where the majority of the fire to the attached garage, although dealing with the smoke that had permeated throughout the house. A pair of elderly individuals, a man and a woman, were transported to a local hospital in fair condition, suffering from smoke inhalation, as revealed by the LAFD's subsequent report.
A total of 33 firefighters arrived at the incident, deploying their skills to bring the fire under control in a commendable 25 minutes. This strategic and timely intervention prevented further damage to the surrounding structures. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the authorities. The successful "knockdown" of the fire was officially announced at 5:42 p.m. on the same day.
While the identities of the affected residents have not been disclosed, the swift response from the fire department highlights the challenges faced by older populations in emergencies. The firefighters’ ability to quickly contain the fire in the garage and limit smoke damage within the home demonstrated both efficiency and a concerted effort to protect life and property.
