A high-speed dash through South Boston ended with a Quincy man in cuffs after he allegedly rammed a Mercedes into a building. The incident took place late yesterday when a Massachusetts State Police trooper witnessed a blue Mercedes sedan blow through a red light at the nexus of Frontage Road and the Massachusetts Avenue Connector, as per authorities.

According to NBC Boston, the chase began around 10:30 p.m., when the driver, identified by state police as 21-year-old Cedric Fortune, ignored the trooper's emergency lights and opted to speed away instead. The trooper refrained from pursuing the fleeing vehicle for the sake of safety. But it wasn't long before the Mercedes met its match with a building on East Broadway.

Fortune was allegedly spotted post-crash sprinting near the scene by another state trooper who gave chase on foot, culminating in an arrest in the vicinity of East 3rd street, WHDH reports. While Fortune was patted down and detained, at least one passenger from the car remains at large.

Fortune is now facing a bevy of charges including negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating after license suspension, and failure to stop for police. State police spokesperson Dave Procopio states that additional charges stem from the ensuing property damage and Fortune's high-speed antics that ended with the Mercedes entrenched against the building's facade. The suspect fortune, managed to post the $440 bail after his arrest.

The aftermath saw the blue Mercedes and the struck building both sporting "significant damages," with an arraignment in South Boston District Court set for today following the yesterday night debacle.
