It looks like Houstonians will need to keep their umbrellas at the ready as the forecast calls for showers to drench the city starting this Friday. Houston can expect "partly sunny" skies today with highs around 64 degrees, but things will take a wet turn with "a 30 percent chance of showers after noon" on Friday and storms likely hitting the area Friday night. National Weather Services details a significant 80% chance of precipitation as we head into the weekend.
Saturday's outlook isn't much drier, with a "30 percent chance of showers before noon" and partly sunny skies after that. Prepared with an east wind gusting as high as 25 mph, it might be a good idea to secure those holiday decorations. Temperatures are expected to drop Saturday night to a cool 46 degrees. As for Sunday, the National Weather Services predicts sunny skies with a high near 62, offering residents some respite from the rain.
Meanwhile, the Storm Prediction Center has some reassuring news for those wary of severe weather. In their latest outlook, the SPC clarified, "NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST," indicating that while we'll be seeing quite a bit of rain, it shouldn't escalate into anything too furious.
The Houston Chronicle warns locals to be ready for "substantial rain" later in the week, suggesting rain could lead to "localized urban or small stream flooding." The rain is set to arrive from the west, hitting areas like Katy and Tomball before moving towards Houston and beyond. At the start of the weekend, the Chronicle suggests keeping an umbrella handy due to the heavier downpours expected Friday night. Houston Chronicle mentions that by Saturday, the showers should taper off, paving the way for a clearer, albeit brisk, weekend.
