A man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in Rancho Mirage has been nabbed by cops. Reginald Demond Macon Jr., 27, was arrested on December 20, 2023, after a victim identified him as the assailant in a vicious attack earlier this month.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported that deputies first learned of the incident when they were called to a local hospital on December 9. The female victim had arrived seeking care after claiming to have been sexually assaulted in the 41000 block of Indian Trail. She provided investigators with a thorough description of the suspect. This led the Palm Desert Station's Investigations Bureau to quickly and positively identify the suspect as Macon, an Indio resident, who they were then able to swiftly take into custody in Indio's 47000 block of Van Buren Street.
Charges against Macon include assault with a deadly weapon and felony sexual assault. He has been booked into the John Benoit Detention Center. The case remains under active investigation, with few details being released at this moment.
Authorities are concerned there could be additional victims and have made a public appeal for information. "Anyone with information about similar incidents involving Macon is encouraged to contact Investigator Iniguez at 760–836–1600," the Sheriff's Department stated. The Palm Desert Sheriff's Station urges locals to continue to partner with them in community policing efforts by reporting any criminal activity directly to law enforcement or the We-Tip Crime Reporting Hotline.
