In a hustle to beat the holiday rush, a two-vehicle smashup rattled San Mateo yesterday at the crossing of Hillsdale Boulevard and South El Camino Real. The San Mateo Police Department rushed to the scene following reports of the accident where, according to their announcement, one driver's rash move to make a left turn from a straight lane sparked the chaos.
Investigators pieced together that the sedan while attempting the ill-judged turn, succeeded in cutting off an SUV and sending it careening over the curb and into a signal pole. Miraculously, in a twist of holiday fortune, no injuries were reported after the collision. The Police Department took this opportunity to issue a heartfelt reminder, "Please be patient when driving this holiday season, and make safe decisions."
Witnesses at the scene described an SUV that practically flew over the curb. The sedate pace of festive meanderings was punctuated by a startling thud and the twisted sculpture of metal that once was an ordinary street corner.
