A brazen robbery attempt at a Revere, Massachusetts furniture store was thwarted when the store owner and his friends took matters into their own hands, chasing down and subduing the knife-wielding suspect. The incident, unfolding at B.D.'s Furniture Outlet on Squire Road, saw the would-be thief leaping over a counter towards a female cashier before his plan went awry. The store's surveillance video captured the dramatic confrontation.
Store owner Thaier Tuffaha was in the back of the store monitoring the cameras when he witnessed the suspect's attack on the employee. "I was in the back, looking at the camera – I have to," Tuffaha explained, "He’s attacking the girl – I didn’t care about the money then – I thought of the girl." In a quick response, Tuffaha, and his group sprang into action, dashing after the fleeing man who tried to escape by squeezing through a fence, according to WHDH.
The suspect didn't make it far. After a brief chase, Tuffaha and his friends captured the assailant, detaining him until the police arrived. Despite the scuffle, Tuffaha showed a hint of humor when recounting the event, "If you ask me for money, I’ll give it to you – but don’t do that!" he laughed. His encounter was not solely without harm, one of Tuffaha's friends sustained a cut during the apprehension, necessitating stitches, as shown in the CBS News Boston report.
Police confirmed the suspect was armed with a knife when he burst into the store to rob it, the incident is still under investigation. "The girl, she was by herself," Tuffaha said. "And with a knife, he threatened her, she's scared away, tried to open the cash register." Amid danger, there was a sense of relief from Tuffaha in the aftermath of the encounter, "Thanks God, thanks God. He got hurt, but that's not the way it should be," he said, "Hopefully my friend is OK." The suspect was also taken to the hospital following the ordeal, per CBS News Boston.
