A van crash at a YMCA in Foxborough, Massachusetts, has left four children injured and the driver facing charges, authorities report. The incident occurred on December 26 around 4:30 p.m. when a 51-year-old Rhode Island man crashed his van into the Child Watch area of the Hobomock YMCA on Mechanic Street. As reported by Boston 25 News, the children, all under five, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, who has not been named due to pending legal proceedings, is cooperating with investigators as reported by MassLive. Officials have stated that the driver stayed at the scene following the crash. He will appear in Wrentham District Court to face a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle. A clerk magistrate hearing will be scheduled to determine probable cause.
The building has been assessed for safety and structural integrity, with the Foxborough Building Commissioner considering the aftermath, as per the statement by the local police. To reassure the shaken public, the Hockomock Area YMCA indicated on their Facebook page, as highlighted by Hoodline, that normal operations would resume quickly after receiving confirmation from authorities on the building's condition.
According to Hoodline, the van belonged to an employee of Amego Inc., a group aiding individuals with developmental disabilities. "I'm very happy that our client and our employee are both OK right now," John Randall, Amego's president and CEO, told WCVB in the mayhem following the accident.
