The Riverside County Sheriff's Office tightly reined in festivities on the road with a DUI checkpoint located in the 2400 block of Hamner Avenue in Norco, snagging two drivers under the influence of alcohol on December 22. The operation, lasting from 8:00 pm to late 3:00 am, screened 555 vehicles, according to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies at the checkpoint not only arrested the tipsy travelers but issued a hefty 20 citations for unlicensed drivers, five for suspended licenses, and towed five vehicles to boot.
Those caught under the influence while driving are faced with average fines and penalties reaching the staggering heights of $13,500, complemented by a license suspension.
The checkpoints are supported through a grant bestowed by the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They collectively warn and urge the public to vigilantly 'Report Drunk Driver – Call 9–1–1'.
