Round Rock's top cop and city staffer, Bryan Williams, is set to hang up his hat in January 2024, marking the end of a decorated 39-year run in public service. Starting as a patrol officer in McKinney back in '85, Williams climbed the ranks to Assistant Police Chief, before eventually landing in Round Rock as its Police Chief in 2004. He's been serving as an Assistant City Manager since 2011.
In a move to quickly well fill the soon-to-be-vacant shoes, Round Rock has elevated Brad Wiseman from the planning department hot seat to Assistant City Manager starting this December. The news, naturally, has set the stage for a reshuffle within the city’s staff, with Bradley Dushkin stepping up as Director of Planning and Development Services and Jeffrey Brooks nabbing the role of Assistant Director, according to an announcement on the city's official website.
City Manager Laurie Hadley didn't mince her words when praising Williams for his years of service. "Bryan’s practical approach to leadership and his deep understanding of our community, both as Police Chief and Assistant City Manager, have been vitally important in addressing Round Rock’s needs during a period of major growth," Hadley articulated.
The new guard, Wiseman, isn't exactly a greenhorn either, with over six years of experience in the Florida planning scene and a solid run since 2007 with Round Rock, he's primed to take over. Wiseman boasts a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning and Zoning and a Master’s in Public Administration, credentials that seemingly promise to seamlessly carry forward Round Rock's progressive pulse.
Williams' retirement does more than just signal a change of guard. It also accentuates the end of an era for Round Rock. As someone who's worn multiple hats, his departure is at once a nod to the stability he's fostered and a spotlight on the fresh perspectives that Wiseman and co. are geared up to bring to the table. The city of Round Rock now looks ahead to new leadership and continued growth with the changing of the guard come January 2024.
