The Diaz family's search for their matriarch, Pauline Diaz, persists despite a chilling incident that occurred 12 years after her disappearance. Juanita Diaz, Pauline's daughter, has become increasingly concerned for her family's safety following what seems to be a targeted act against their efforts to locate her mother. A woman unceremoniously snatched a missing person's magnet off Juanita's truck while it was parked outside her home. As reported by KSAT, Juanita said, "Apparently, this person might know something, and she's just afraid that, you know, she could be part of it of my mom's missing."
Pauline Diaz vanished on December 7, 2010, after concluding her shift at an H-E-B grocery store. The family has been relentlessly campaigning to bring light to her case. The recent theft came just days after the family participated in a podcast about missing persons, and Juanita believes it may have been an act of intimidation concertedly to get them to abandon their search. "I think these people want it to end. Want me to shut up? And I'd say 'any more and just drop it?' But I'm not," she firmly told KSAT. The incident has been reported to the San Antonio Police Department.
Remembrance and resolve mark the 12-year anniversary of Pauline's disappearance. As a mother and treasured employee of HEB, Pauline Diaz's life left an indelible impression, especially through her lovingly made tortillas for children. Juanita Diaz recounted to KENS 5 News her mother's dedication, saying, "Making the tortillas, The kids would go and she would get a fresh tortilla for the kids and put some butter on it, roll it up and give it to the kids." The loss has left a void in the family and community, but Juanita vows to continue "to do everything in my power to get her story out there."
Pauline's disappearance coincided with a chaotic period in her personal life, as she was in the process of filing for divorce. With no arrests made, the situation remains at a "standstill," Juanita stated in her interview with KENS 5. She also mentioned that they are not only fielding interest locally but also from outside San Antonio, as well-wishers and concerned citizens extend their reach to help disseminate Pauline's story.
The case remains unresolved, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information to come forward, imploring the public to call 210-335-TIPS.
