San Antonio fire crews had their hands full Wednesday morning trying to douse a stubborn blaze on the rooftop of a local strip club, officials said. The fire ignited at approximately 10 a.m. at the San Antonio Men's Club, located in the 8200 block of Interchange Parkway. According to KENS 5, the flames appeared to be concentrated in the roof area, giving the crews a challenging fight.
The structure's metal roof compounded the difficulties faced by the firefighters, requiring the San Antonio Fire Department to sound a second alarm, summoning additional forces to the scene. "The building's metal roof made it difficult to fight the fire," San Antonio Fire Department Chief Charles Hood said in a statement obtained by KENS 5. Fire personnel labored for over an hour to quench hot spots that persisted well after their arrival.
No one was reported injured during the incident, and the building is said to have been vacant at the time. A detail that suggests the property had not seen recent use was that the club's website states it is temporarily closed due to "some unforeseen circumstances," which may or may not have been related to the conflagration. The exact cause of the fire, as of now, remains unknown.
Smoke billowing from the metal roof was visible upon the fire department's arrival. Firefighters faced major obstacles in putting the inferno to rest, according to information provided by the San Antonio Fire Department. "No injuries were reported and no one was inside at the time," detailed a report by FOX San Antonio. As the investigation into the cause continues, the San Antonio Men's Club will remain shut, with its future operations uncertain.
