
San Antonio police officers were involved in a fatal shooting of a man identified as 45-year-old Steven Allen Lopez after a chase on the city's West Side. The incident, which took place in the early hours of November 27th, led to the death of Lopez who was armed with a gun during the pursuit.
Officers Joshua Barbosa and Jonathan Delgado, were attempting to conduct a traffic stop when Lopez and another individual were in a vehicle. According to KSAT. Lopez exited the vehicle, leading to a chase, and was fatally shot after allegedly turning towards officers with a weapon in hand. The officers' body-worn camera footage was released, showing the moment the chase ended.
The public release of the video footage by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) was followed by a statement obtained by KSAT from SAPD Chief William McManus, detailing the initial stop attempt. The preliminary report notes that Lopez pulled out a handgun and pointed it at officers, subsequently resulting in officers Barbosa and Delgado discharging their weapons. The Bexar County Medical Examiner officially identified Lopez and cited multiple gunshot wounds as the cause of death.
Lopez's criminal history, obtained by KSAT, included charges dating back to 1996, spanning from deadly conduct to driving without a license. His record also notes arrests for evading arrest in 2013 and a dismissed theft charge in 2014. Barbosa and Delgado were placed on administrative duty to thoroughly investigate the incident.
The second suspect, who was seen driving away from the scene and later abandoned the vehicle, has yet to be found or identified. SAPD continues to search for this individual while the investigation proceeds.
