Earlier today, a man was severely injured in a house fire on the Southwest Side of San Antonio, which required firefighters to forcefully remove burglar bars to save him. The blaze was reported just before 8:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Indian Pipe Street, a residential area close to Pearsall Park and Old Pearsall Road.
According to KSAT, firefighters had to cut through the security bars quickly to access the burning home and rescue the trapped individual. This intervention was crucial in reaching the man, who had sustained burns in the fire. After being rescued, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No further injuries were reported from the incident. The San Antonio Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire, and as of now, no additional details have been made available regarding the circumstances surrounding the event or the condition of the injured man.
The difficulty in reaching the man due to the safeguarding bars is a stark reminder of the potential hazards these safety measures can present during emergencies. Consequently, residents are urged to consider the installation of quick-release devices on existing bars to ensure that they do not unintentionally become trapped in the case of a similar emergency. Fire officials have yet to release more information on the investigation, as pointed out by KENS 5, with the focus remaining on determining how the fire started and spread.
