It looks like some San Antonio eateries need to clean up their act. Las Quesadillas Poblanas plunged from a health score of 91 in May to a dismal 66 during its last inspection, according to KSAT. Violations piled up for the previously high-scoring joint, where inspectors discovered foods stored in too-warm conditions and a mold invasion in the ice machine.
Guerrero's Mexican Restaurant is another locale in hot water for its second straight failing health score. During a November inspection, KSAT reported that an array of health code breaches were flagged, including the mishandling of food and the improper use of a thermometer — all contributing to a failing score of just 60, a slight dip from September's 64.
However, not all San Antonio food establishments are falling short of standards. KSAT highlighted a shining week of inspections where La Siberia, Freebirds World Burrito, Roadrunner Cafe, Whataburger, and Fork and Bowl Bistro all garnered perfect scores of 100, setting a benchmark for cleanliness and proper protocol.
Meanwhile, a meat market and a grocery store have also come under scrutiny. Coliseum Meat Market and Grocery hung by a thread with a score of 77, with an inspector finding raw chicken in a mop sink. And Culebra Meat Market #3 didn’t fare much better, earning a score of 79 as employees scrambled to sort out storage and sanitation issues.
These inspection sagas illustrate a larger theme across San Antonio. While some food sellers are demonstrating exemplary practices, others are being served a stark reminder that health and hygiene are imperative.
