San Antonio is inviting canine lovers and their pets to experience a night out on the town—or rather, a night at the zoo. Come this Sunday, December 31st, the city's zoo is set to host "Dog Day at Zoo Lights," an event where visitors and their dogs can explore the zoo grounds adorned with holiday lights from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. As reported by KSAT, the San Antonio Zoo claims the event will provide enrichment for both the pets and the zoo's animal residents.
According to an announcement by KSAT, those planning to partake in the festivities must adhere to several rules. Pooches are required to have current rabies vaccinations and must stay on a non-retractable leash not exceeding 6 feet in length. Regarding attendance, each animal must have a designated adult handler, and the zoo has capped the number of dog admissions at 600.
Tim Morrow, president & CEO of San Antonio Zoo, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, telling KSAT in a statement, "Dogs are cherished members of our families, and we can't wait for them to experience this enchanting event alongside the animal residents at San Antonio Zoo." Morrow also emphasized that the gathering is slated to be a memory-maker, bringing "an extra touch" of excitement to both humans and animals present.
The cost of taking part in Dog Day is an additional $27.99 on top of the handler's admission ticket or membership fee, with the zoo highlighting the stipulation on their official website. The zoo also highlighted some no-go areas for dogs, including Discovery PLAYce, Riverbank, Starbucks, All Aviaries, Butterfly House, Education Center, indoor restaurants, and animal encounters. Additional details, including this list of restricted areas, can be found on the San Antonio Zoo's official event page.
