In response to the multi-faceted threat of natural calamities, San Bernardino County has launched its "Preparedness Starts Here" initiative, a comprehensive program designed to bolster the community's readiness in the face of earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and a myriad of other potential disasters.
The program emphasizes a collaborative approach to disaster preparedness, aiming to equip residents with the necessary knowledge and tools to safeguard themselves when catastrophe strikes. The "Preparedness Starts Here" program also seeks to keep the populace informed about the county's ongoing efforts to protect them, setting forth a new digital platform, prepare.sbcounty.gov, as the linchpin for accessing a wellspring of disaster-related resources and guidance.
Speaking on the county's commitment to safety, San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor and Board of Supervisors Chair Dawn Rowe pointed out, "Our goal is to provide our residents with the information and inspiration they need to be prepared and keep themselves safe until help can arrive," as detailed in the new initiative's announcement.
Resilience in the aftermath of natural disasters is not just a matter of governmental intervention but a shared responsibility, as evidenced by the multiple preparedness tools, such as the SB Ready smartphone app and the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS), which includes voice and text alerts, thereby ensuring residents stay apprised of emergencies as they unfold. The program, while extensive in its reach, underscores a symbiotic relationship between county services and the self-preparedness of its residents, whose active engagement is paramount.
San Bernardino County has planned an extensive campaign across various media channels covering newspapers, local TV broadcasts in both English and Spanish, radio, social media, and online news platforms to promote "Preparedness Starts Here," an initiative that proactively places the county and its inhabitants on a steady footing to not just survive but recover and thrive in the event of an emergency, as reflected in a statement released by county officials.
