In a tragic turn of events in San Pablo, an altercation over stolen packages led to a deadly encounter, where a 60-year-old woman was intentionally hit by a vehicle and later died from her injuries, police say. The San Pablo Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Broadway Avenue on the afternoon of December 8 following a call about a collision. Upon their arrival, officers found the critically injured woman, who was rushed to a local trauma center for emergency surgery but succumbed to her injuries on December 23, according to the San Pablo Police Department press release.
The investigation revealed that Dene Blakely, age 39, had been involved in a verbal dispute with the victim over the theft of parcels before the incident. This, paired with evidence at the scene, led authorities to conclude that Blakely's actions were deliberate. In a swift response to the incident, Blakely was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The charges were escalated to Attempted Murder following a review of the case by the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.
Following the victim's death, the District Attorney’s Office amended the complaint to include a murder charge on which Blakely was arraigned yesterday. The San Pablo Police Department confirms that Blakely remains behind bars at the County Jail. The incident continues to be under active investigation by the San Pablo Police Department, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact them at 510-215-3150.
