San Ramon cops stumbled upon more than they bargained for yesterday when they found two people unconscious in a car littered with narcotics and a ghost gun, according to the San Ramon Police Department. In the middle of the day, at around 11 a.m., officers were summoned to a parking lot at 2505 San Ramon Valley Blvd where they discovered the individuals and the contraband.

The responding officers, whose routine vehicle check quickly escalated into a hazardous situation, claimed to unexpectedly feel the symptoms of suspected fentanyl exposure. Dizziness, elevated heart rates, and weakness led to both officers being promptly transported to San Ramon Regional Medical Center. Although they were discharged four hours later, the scare underscored the drug's potent and perilous nature.

In a Facebook post by the department, it was detailed that the initial welfare check on the vehicle's occupants evolved into a drug and weapons bust. Recovered from the scene were narcotics and a loaded firearm that had no serial number, making it a so-called ghost gun.

Arrests soon followed, with a 19-year-old man from Vacaville and a 27-year-old woman from Cottonwood finding themselves in handcuffs. Multiple charges were slapped onto the duo, including possession of a loaded firearm without a serial number and possession of narcotics, with both suspects booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. The local community was briefly disrupted as the area was shut down and then methodically decontaminated by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District's Hazardous Materials Response Team.

The parking lot has since been reopened, and the San Ramon Police Department expressed gratitude to the public for their patience as they worked alongside their public safety partners to ensure the space was made safe again for the community.
