Early Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol officers discovered an abandoned vehicle following a crash on I-880. The white Lexus wreck was blocking traffic near "A" Street in Hayward, and subsequent investigations revealed a chain of illegal activities.
Officers Ocampo and Hackbarth initially found the vehicle, and witnesses reported seeing three young males fleeing the scene. Officers Bonasea and Cuellar joined the search, ultimately detaining three individuals who matched the descriptions. One was caught with a stolen, loaded firearm and is now under arrest; another was sent to the hospital to nurse a broken arm.
According to a post by CHP Hayward, the Lexus not only obstructed a major roadway but was also stolen from Hayward. The vehicle was connected to an earlier burglary in San Leandro to thicken the plot.
The discovery of the stolen firearm inside the vehicle adds to the gravity of the situation. CHP Hayward has taken the lead on this multifaceted case. The incident and all related crimes are still active under their meticulous investigation.
