Shoppers in Sudbury were hit with a high-tech heist this past weekend as credit card skimmers were uncovered at a Roche Bros. Supermarket. According to a Boston25 News report, the devious devices were discovered on two self-checkout pin pads at the Sudbury Farms location on Route 20 on Christmas Eve.
As the company scrambled to secure its customers' financial security, CEO Kevin Barner addressed the public about the breach. “Roche Bros. has strong policies in place to protect against these types of incidents, including conducting multiple security checks daily on our registers," Barner said, in a statement published by NBC Boston. Roche Bros launched an investigation to thoroughly check all their locations for similar devices.
There has been no confirmed case of customer data being leaked from the skimmers thus far. Nonetheless, the company has contacted law enforcement to probe deeply into the incident, as noted in a report by WCVB.
Customers who used the self-checkout kiosks at the Sudbury Farms store on or before Sunday are advised to check their bank statements and be on guard for any suspicious activity. “Roche Bros. has strong policies in place to protect against these types of incidents, including conducting multiple security checks daily on our registers. Roche Bros. is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of our customers’ information and are issuing a press release to try and reach affected and potentially affected customers who we are not able to specifically identify,” detailed Barner in a statement obtained by Boston25 News.
