The giveaway events will gift 400 lucky participants with a holiday essential: tamal-making kits. These kits will include a 10lb bag of fresh tamal masa, as well as bags of corn husks and red chili secos.
Hahn's generosity stems from a well of community spirit, providing grants to local organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier and Pico Rivera, ensuring the giveaway is stocked and ready for the eager attendees. Hahn, in a statement to the community, said, "It is officially tamal season in Latino homes and neighborhoods across LA County. For so many families, it would not be Christmas without homemade tamales, so I wanted to make sure that every family, no matter their financial situation, could participate in this beloved and delicious tradition." Her ally in this venture is Amapola Market, where the festive foodstuffs originate.
In South Whittier, Hahn will also distribute toys to children from pre-registered low-income families. Amapola Market President & CEO Rolando Pozos is slated for remarks, joining Hahn in South Whittier for the toy and masa giveaway. Details about the South Whittier event provided by an official bulletin indicate that it will take place at the Community Resource Center located at 10750 Laurel Ave. from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
In Lynwood, the festivities are to be part of the larger 'Lynwood Gives' event. Billed at Bateman Hall, located at 11331 Ernestine Ave., the masa giveaway promises to draw a crowd in high spirits. The timings for revellers to remember are Wednesday, December 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
