On Christmas Eve, while most were nestled in their beds, a suspect was caught after allegedly shattering the peace along with the glass doors of several businesses in Hercules, California. According to the Hercules Police Department's social media briefing, an alarm at 844 Willow Ave alerted the authorities to the break-ins at around 3:43 AM. Police coordinated with multiple departments to respond to the scene of the crime which included Starbucks, El Cuscatlan, and Mountain Mike's Pizza.
The first officer on the scene spotted a male suspect donning a dark puffy jacket and pants standing in front of Mountain Mike’s, but the suspect had vanished by the time the officer had maneuvered his vehicle into the parking lot. Another officer later observed running from Foxboro Downs, the same male across Willow Ave and made his way into a nearby creek. After establishing a strong perimeter with the help of surrounding agencies and conducting a search with the assistance of a K9 from the San Pablo Police Department, officers detained the suspect by the creek.
The Hercules Police Department later reported that through review of video surveillance and further investigation, they arrested the male, connecting him with this and four other burglaries targeting the same businesses last week. The suspect's holiday spree seemingly came to an end as he was booked into Martinez Detention Facility on multiple charges.
The collaborative effort to nab the suspect included not just Hercules PD, but also the Pinole Police Department, CONTRA COSTA SHERIFF-OFFICIAL PAGE, and San Pablo Police Department K9. The suspect is currently awaiting trial.
