Yesterday afternoon, Faustino Diaz, 25, spurred a SWAT response when he barricaded himself in a North Side apartment with his girlfriend's three young kids, setting off a chilling hostage scenario, as per KSAT reports.
Responding to a domestic disturbance call at the 3200 block of Cripple Creek just after 1 p.m., police were alerted by the children's mother that her boyfriend was holed up with the children, aged just 2, 3, and 8 months. Diaz, now on the run, was wanted on several warrants, including a grave felony—sexual assault of a child—and four misdemeanors. In a terrifying twist, SWAT officers breached the apartment only to find that the suspect had vanished, and the young hostages were found unharmed.
The suspect's escape seemed to have involved a cunning exit through a back door, a detail accompanying the unfortunate revelation that additional charges may be looming for Diaz after this incident. San Antonio PD's Sgt. Washington Moscoso faced questions with cryptic reticence, stating he "could not get into specifics or details of the disturbance," as the suspect remains at large, with the public eye turned expectant toward the arm of the law for a swift capture, according to Express News.
While the children were rescued unharmed, a cloud of concern clings to the North Side community as the search for Diaz continues. SAPD has yet to provide updates on the nature of Diaz's departure or the potential injuries that may have been sustained during the episode.
