
In the Home Gardens, Corona, a man's body was found lying on the ground, leading to a deputy-involved shooting that rocked the community in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday, December 28. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the scene on the 13400 block of Barker Lane after reports of gunfire were made by a resident who stumbled upon the grisly sight.
The first responders discovered the victim already beyond help, succumbing to his injuries before medical aid could revive him. This set off a chain of events that had law enforcement scouring the residence where the initial incident took place, and in the course of their search, officials reported coming face-to-face with the alleged murder suspect inside that same house. In a confrontation that led to deputies opening fire, the suspect was struck by the deputies’ bullets but fortunately did not sustain life-threatening injuries, he was subsequently treated on-site before being transported to a hospital ensuring no fatal outcomes stemmed from the officers' intervention.
Sergeant Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez reported the suspect's condition as non-life-threatening, with no deputies harmed during the tense encounter. An investigation split between the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit for the homicide and the Riverside County Force Investigations Detail for the deputy-involved shooting.
This case has spurred an appeal to the public for additional information that could shed light on the homicide or the subsequent deputy-involved shooting, anyone with insight is urged to reach out to the Central Homicide Unit. "The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details will be released at this time," according to the official press release.
