A teenage girl was the victim of a robbery and shooting in the parking lot of a Denny's restaurant on San Antonio's West Side earlier today, officials said. The San Antonio Police Department reported that the incident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. in the 7100 block of Northwest Loop 410, near Culebra Road. Two teenage girls, previously staying at a nearby motel, told their parents they were heading out for breakfast but instead arranged a meet-up for a fight, said police.
According to KSAT, upon arriving at the agreed location, the girls were ambushed by four individuals wearing masks who proceeded to rob them. In the course of this event, one of the girls was shot in the backside. The suspects evaded capture by fleeing the scene. The police have not made any arrests, although one suspect has been tentatively identified through previous social media activity.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following the shooting. She and her sister had intended to fight another group of juvenile girls when the altercation escalated. The shooter discharged multiple gunshots, one of which resulted in the victim's injury, according to police. Further investigation revealed that the victim, her sister, and the assailants all attended the same high school, as shared by the victim's mother with law enforcement.
Authorities are currently investigating a social media post that they believe contains information about a suspect whom they have yet to apprehend. The suspect and three other juveniles are thought to have fled in a white or gray Hyundai, FOX San Antonio reported. As the investigation continues, SAPD has urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in capturing the perpetrators of this early morning violence.
