San Antonio Woman Indicted After Dogs' Rampage Costs Elderly Man His Legs

A San Antonio woman has been arrested after a brutal dog attack that left a 77-year-old man without his legs. Danielle Henderson, 32, faces a third-degree felony charge for a dangerous dog attack causing serious bodily injury. According to Express News, the incident occurred on August 16 when two dogs, a German shepherd and a pit bull, launched an unprovoked assault on Max De Los Santos Jr. outside his home.

De Los Santos' injuries were described as severe, with his wife Beatrice recounting to Fox San Antonio that "he has so many deep wounds on his arms, on his left leg, on his right leg. On the right leg, most of the flesh is gone, from the knee to the bottom of his foot. And his ear had to be reattached." Tragically, both of De Los Santos' legs were amputated following the attack.

Henderson, who was responsible for a pit bull named Buttercup, was indicted by a Bexar County grand jury at the end of November. If convicted, Henderson could face two to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Both dogs involved in the attack, which also injured another neighbor trying to intervene, have been euthanized.

Neighbors had previously reported concerns about the dogs' behavior to the city, with a call to the city's 311 line logged a day before the attack, as disclosed by a Fox San Antonio investigation. This case has not been isolated; San Antonio has seen a sharp increase in severe dog bites over the past years, with nearly 300 severe incidents recorded in the 2023 fiscal year.
