Chaos erupted on a peaceful El Cajon street when a house party turned deadly, leading to the capture of a third suspect in connection with a double homicide that claimed the lives of two young men in late October. According to El Cajon Police Department reports, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Mahogany Drive after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls concerning a raucous party and subsequent gunshots on October 28.
The scenes that awaited police officers were frantic as partygoers spilled into the streets, scrambling for safety. Amid the chaos, police discovered two critically wounded victims, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old male. Both young men later died from their injuries, despite rapid medical responses. Investigators quickly identified at least two suspects believed to have been involved in the shooting and who had made their getaway before the arrival of the police.
Through a combination of technology and inter-departmental collaboration, the culprits were tracked down. The Flock Safety automated license plate reader system pinpointed the escape vehicle. At the same time, two suspects, Bruce Luu, 21, and Dan Nalab, 24, were identified and apprehended in separate incidents. On November 18, Chula Vista Police snagged Nalab on an unrelated firearm charge, while Luu was arrested two days later with the help of the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and the East County Regional Gang Task Force.
The case took a decisive turn on December 1 when Orsbuin Young, a 19-year-old San Diego resident, was arrested by El Cajon officers and the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, rounding out the trio of suspects. Young was taken into custody at a San Diego residence, where subsequent warrants allowed the El Cajon Police Department SWAT team to conduct further searches there and at Young’s own home. The three suspects are now facing first-degree murder charges, and they are being held without bail in the San Diego County Central Jail, the police department's announcement clarified.
The El Cajon Police Department continues its investigation into the homicides, encouraging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be confidentially shared through Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
