The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is now seeking witnesses in a hit-and-run incident that left a man dead in Thousand Oaks early last week. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Thousand Oaks resident Robert Paul Quiroz Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene, despite attempts by medical professionals to save his life.

The Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau reported that on December 9, at about 6:06 AM, deputies received calls about a man causing disturbances on Janss Road and Windsor Drive. The man, later identified as Quiroz, was seen running into the road and trying to open car doors before jumping into the back of a pickup truck. Unfortunately, when authorities arrived, Quiroz lay unresponsive on the sidewalk, and all those who had called in had already left the scene prior to the collision.

Investigators believe Quiroz was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Janss Road, in the second lane. After hitting Quiroz near the intersection, the vehicle in question reportedly fled the scene, turning north onto Montgomery Road. Senior Deputy Marcos Moreno, who is handling the case, stressed the importance of witnesses coming forward to provide any information related to the tragic event.

The department urges anyone who might have seen something or has any relevant information to get in touch with Senior Deputy Marcos Moreno at the Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau, as stated in a news release. Ventura County Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest or criminal complaint. In this case, callers may remain anonymous if they choose.

Those with any details are encouraged to call 800-222-TIPS (8477), where they can report their information to Ventura County Crime Stoppers anonymously.
