Los Angeles County is doubling down on its commitment to tackling climate change, with the youth leading the charge. Supervisor Janice Hahn announced today the reappointment of Torrance resident Rebecca Gloyer to the Los Angeles County Youth Climate Commission. Gloyer, a UC Berkeley student, first joined the pioneering commission at its inception last year.

"I’m beyond ecstatic to be a contributor to progress in my community! Thank you, Supervisor Hahn, for this opportunity, and I look forward to working the LA County Youth Climate Commission. I look forward to giving back to my community, and to ensuring future generations get to enjoy the same beautiful Earth that we get to," Gloyer told the press. She comes well-prepared for the role, having earned multiple associate degrees from El Camino College and now pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Data Science.

The commission, which held its first public meeting this June, is tasked with giving young people a voice to influence climate policy in America’s most populous county. Los Angeles has made it clear that youth insight and energy are invaluable in the ongoing battle against climate change, and Gloyer exemplifies the type of informed and passionate youth advocate the commission seeks to empower.

"Young people are leading the charge to take action on our climate crisis. Rebecca embodies that mix of passion and knowledge that we need now, more than ever,” Hahn said. As Hahn sees it, Gloyer's reappointment is not just a nod to her past contributions but also an investment in the environmentally conscious leadership to come.
