In a bold display of ingenuity and quick action, a train crew became the heroes of the day as they extinguished a fire aboard their locomotive in the vicinity of the Ozol Oil Facility, east of Port Costa, East Bay. In what could have escalated into a full-blown inferno, these operators kept their cool and tackled the flames ahead of the arrival of professional firefighters.
Details of this dramatic episode unfolded on Saturday afternoon when the train operators, reportedly confronted with flames, took matters into their own hands. According to FireCrockett's post, the fire was "knocked down by train operators" before the Crockett Carquinez Fire Department and Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews arrived on the scene to assist with cooling the engine compartment down.

NBC Bay Area reported that the Crockett Carquinez Fire Department announced both departments responded to the fire report but found, to their relief, that the situation was already under control by the train crew's decisive actions. Firefighters stayed at the scene, ensuring that any potential hotspots within the train's engine compartment were cooled and posed no further danger.
