In Hercules, a routine traffic stop escalated quickly when a police officer pulled over a silver Infiniti G35 for multiple vehicle code violations, according to an announcement from the Hercules Police Department. During the stop on December 12 at 11:12 a.m., the driver attempted to leave the vehicle but was ordered to stay seated by the responding officer.
The situation intensified as the officer engaged with the driver, who began making suspicious movements within the car, reaching towards his waistband and the floorboard. This led the officer to discover a large, clear plastic bag of pills near the driver's feet. The officer repeatedly instructed the driver to refrain from moving around, but the driver did not heed these commands. Back-up was called, and the officer held the driver at gunpoint to secure the scene until additional officers arrived to detain both the driver and the passenger.
A search of the vehicle, based on probable cause, revealed a trove of suspected drugs, including marijuana, LSD, Percocet pills, and multiple forms of fentanyl, one of which was morphine laced with the potent synthetic opioid, as shared on the department's Facebook page. The driver was subsequently arrested and jailed on various charges following the discovery.
Details on the identities of the individuals involved and the specific charges filed have not been released at the time of this report. It's clear, however, that the stop brought to light a variety of illicit substances that could contribute to the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and abuse in the community.
