
A tragic incident at a Tustin excavation site on Wednesday claimed the life of a worker. Units from the Orange County Fire Authority were dispatched to the 9800 block of Newport Avenue, following a distress call at about 10:30 a.m., saying an incident occurred 15 feet beneath the earth's surface.
At the scene, fire crews discovered a man who had experienced a deadly accident within a trench, during a medical emergency, something, apparently collapsed, striking him fatally on the head. He was pronounced dead at the location, according to a report by KTLA 5 News. Rescue teams labored to stabilize the hazardous surroundings into the afternoon to safely recover the body. Meanwhile, Hazmat units were called in to assess the air quality in the confined space.
The identity of the deceased worker has not been released to the public, as officials are investigating the precise circumstances that led up to the collapse. The Orange County Fire Authority has yet to make clear the details leading up to the trench's tragic giveaway, trapping the man beneath soil and debris.
Efforts to extricate the worker were still ongoing well past 1:00 p.m., as stated by CBS News Los Angeles. The investigation into this incident is still developing.
