Chaos erupted near Paul Quinn College on Tuesday morning as a man and a 13-year-old boy suffered gunshot wounds on Happy Canyon Drive, right across from the Dallas institution. The gunfire broke out around 7:30 a.m., sending both victims to the hospital with injuries, according to FOX 4 News.
The teenage victim, who was shot in the leg, is recovering alongside the unnamed adult male. As Dallas police search for the shooter, the community is left grappling with the violence that appears all too commonplace in the city's landscape. The neighborhood, in stark contrast to the promise and potential that Paul Quinn College represents, was once again the backdrop to a senseless act of gun violence.
In an unrelated incident, tragedy struck in east Oak Cliff, where a different 13-year-old boy was fatally wounded by what police believe to be an accidental shooting. The incident occurred inside a home on Harlandale Avenue on Sunday morning, as detailed by The Dallas Morning News.
The 15-year-old responsible for the shooting is now in custody, facing a charge of criminal negligent homicide. The Dallas Police Department released a statement lamenting yet another young life cut short and the continued scourge of firearms falling into young hands. These back-to-back incidents underscore a growing concern over rising gun violence and the safety of the city's youth, particularly in areas like Oak Cliff that bear the brunt of such relentless tragedies.
