Several restaurant owners at Railway Heights Market, now known as Junction HTX, were left scrambling after receiving eviction notices via text message on December 1. In a sudden turn of events that left many reeling in surprise and frustration, the landlord mandated that businesses vacate with practically no prior warning, as confirmed by Eater Houston.

Caught off guard, tenants such as the Funnel Cake House and Meat + Cheese Project found themselves in a bind. Pleshette Drummond of the Funnel Cake House expressed her exasperation at the situation. "I'm just frustrated about how everything transpired," Drummond told the Houston Chronicle. "We didn't have any warning that this was going to happen, none whatsoever."

Once a bustling hub for culinary innovation and small businesses at 8200 Washington Avenue, the food hall has suffered numerous setbacks, including financial struggles and management changes. The Houston Chronicle noted that the grounds were once shared by aspiring chefs and entrepreneurs but are now a bare reflection of their former glory. The shakeup comes just as the venue appeared to be shifting gears to focus on Junction Beer Garden and a new event space.

Railway Heights Market had been undergoing a transformation, struggling to keep afloat as traffic dwindled and vendors faced increasing hardship. Some restaurant owners, like David Guerrero of Mykuna, invested tireless effort and resources into their ventures. "I'm not a failing chef," Guerrero told Eater Houston, illuminating his struggle and his determination to persevere through economic ebbs and flows.

In an act of swift response to the landlord's decision, Sunny Vohra of Meat + Cheese Project threw an "eviction party," inviting the community to help consume his remaining stock. "I don't have a backup plan," Vohra lamented, sharing his dismay at the thought of wasting food and the sudden loss of his business location, as reported by the Eater Houston.
