On Christmas Eve, Waltham firefighters faced down a two-alarm house fire that engulfed a home's basement on Barbara Road, leaving behind considerable smoke damage.
Homeowners like Mike Sorrentino had plans upended as flames threatened to consume more than just structures, " (Christmas) night, my whole family was coming down to celebrate, which ain't going to happen now obviously," Sorrentino said. "But (we're) grateful we weren't here." Sorrentino told WCVB.
The fire call came in just shy of 7 p.m., and the onset of the inferno trapped within the confines of the cellar spared the upper levels from direct flame damage however, smoke billowed through the entire residence.
The origin of the conflagration remained unknown, with investigations ongoing by the state fire marshal's office; no additional details have been provided. according to WHDH.
