The streets of Newark have been marred by a series of vehicular-related crimes, as reported by the Newark Police Department's recent crime blotter, chronicling incidents from Dec 18 to Dec 24. The blotter, published on the department's website, details numerous instances of vehicle theft, auto burglaries, and drug-related offenses.
Starting the week with a DUI arrest, a 20-year-old woman from San Jose was pulled over and subsequently booked for driving intoxicated in the early hours of December 18, according to the Newark Police Department Crime Blotter. In a separate incident Ironic to that of a safety provider, a 50-year-old man was apprehended amongst his associates, one of whom was found with substances indicative of drug sale intentions. All three culprits have been booked into Santa Rita Jail.
Midweek, the blotter notes a continuation of auto crimes. On December 20, a rash of auto burglaries and vehicle thefts were investigated, including a vehicle stolen from the 37000 block of Sycamore Street and another car burglary in the region carrying unknown losses due to a window smash.
Package theft did not fall behind in the slew of crimes, with a Newark citizen's quick response to a Ring camera alert assisting in arresting a 31-year-old male who attempted porch piracy. With a sense of justice swift as the theft, the Newark Police made sure he was booked and his drug paraphernalia confiscated, the blotter reported.
As the week neared its end, the blitz of auto thefts and burglaries seemed relentless. The blotter lists several incidents, with a particularly unfortunate string of burglaries from a parking lot off Balentine Drive, where losses remain unquantified. The Newark Police Department has put out an arrest log for the community, which provides mug shots and personal data allowable by statute. It is available on their website for those interested in keeping abreast of the local crime.
