A grisly early morning wreck on the Katy Freeway has left one man dead and another facing charges. Asya Marshall, 32, has been charged with intoxicated assault after a late-night collision claimed the life of a 31-year-old man, whose identity remains to be verified. The crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, as reported by the Houston Police Department via a City of Houston news release.
According to the City of Houston news, the sequence of events began when Marshall, allegedly driving under the influence, failed to safely negotiate the roadway. Her Jeep Wrangler slammed into a Dodge Ram tow truck that had stopped to assist with a minor accident involving two other vehicles. Tragedy unfolded as the Jeep then continued to violently crash into the Mercedes and ultimately struck the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, a mishap that would soon turn fatal.
No other injuries were reported from the accident, signaling a brief sigh of relief for what could potentially have been an even more catastrophic event. However, the relief was short-lived when Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center on the following day, December 17.
Marshall was detained at the crash site. The police quickly determined that she was likely to have been operating her vehicle under the influence, a factor that grievously turned a minor collision into a deadly affair. Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Ramirez and Officer T. Syed recounted the progression of the harrowing incident and noted the subsequent charges brought against Marshall. Her booking photo has been released in conjunction with this grim news.
