A tragic crash in Anoka County took the life of a woman on Saturday when her vehicle strayed into oncoming traffic colliding with another SUV. The collision occurred just after 1:45 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Drive Northeast and 141st Avenue Northeast in Columbus.
The yet-unnamed woman was driving northbound on Lake Drive Northeast when her vehicle inexplicably swerved into the southbound lane, sparking the fatal encounter. Responders rushed to the scene. Efforts made to save the woman were in vain as she passed away on the scene. The male driver of the other SUV was lucky, relatively speaking, he was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, according to FOX 9.
Multiple departments, including the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, were called to the site of the carnage where the woman's vehicle had smashed into the southbound SUV, as both lay totaled amidst the debris that once formed parts of their constructs, emergency crews set about the grim task of trying to rescue the woman, though she was declared deceased at the place. The nature of the crash has prompted an investigation that is currently underway, but no new details have surfaced since the heartrending incident unfolded, as KARE 11 reported.
