In a significant crackdown on narcotics distribution in Worcester, a joint operation by local police departments led to the arrest of two individuals on multiple drug-related charges. The Worcester Police Vice Squad was at the helm of the operation, executing a search warrant that brought Steven Cancu, 28, and Linda Mojica, 26, into custody. In a statement released by the Worcester Police Department, the arrests took place yesterday at an address on Country Club Boulevard.
Details from the Worcester Police Department's press release indicate that officers from the Vice Squad, assisted by the Gang Unit and Boylston Police Department, first detained Cancu and proceeded to enter and search the residence. It resulted in Cancu facing charges for Distribution of a Class B Substance (Cocaine) and 3 counts of Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws. The time when Mojica, found inside the premises, was placed under arrest, she was charged with identical counts as Cancu, along with Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute (Suboxone).
These aggressive police actions reflect a committed effort to curb the tide of illegal narcotics flowing through local communities. The Class B substances referred to in the charges typically include drugs like cocaine, which has long plagued urban neighborhoods, fueling addiction and the violence often associated with its distribution and use.
While the confiscated substances have yet to be valued publicly, the significance of these arrests speaks volumes to the determination of law enforcement to disrupt local drug circuits. Reporting drugs in her possession, Mojica now faces the additional charge of possessing Suboxone with the intent to distribute, a medication commonly used to treat opioid addiction but also subject to abuse. The community waits as the judicial process unfolds, with the fate of the accused hanging in the balance.
