Quick-acting Worcester police took down a would-be robber following a heist attempt at Gateway Foods on Millbury Street. The attempted robbery occurred yesterday, just shy of midnight, when an unknown male demanded cash from the register and promptly fled the scene. Officers responded to the call and gathered descriptions of the suspect from store witnesses, setting the stage for a rapid pursuit, according to a Facebook post by the Worcester Police Department.
The search was short-lived as law enforcement spotted a man whose appearance was consistent with the relayed descriptions, this was merely moments after they arrived on the crime scene; the suspect was sighted near the intersection of Millbury and Endicott Streets, just a stone's throw from the grocery store. It doesn’t stop there, the responding officers pounced, detaining the suspect without incident.
Authorities have identified the accused as Donald Scott, a 49-year-old Georgia native. Scott faces charges for Unarmed Robbery and was found to have an outstanding warrant looming over him. His attempt at fast cash turned into a swift arrest, landing him in police custody.
The Worcester Police Department's proactive approach was essential in apprehending Scott, their actions were a demonstration of their staunch commitment to the safety of local businesses and the community at large. No injuries were reported in the incident, which remains under investigation, as per an official statement from police.
