The city has racked up eleven nods across several categories, proving once again that H-Town's food scene is as vibrant and diverse as the city itself. On Wednesday, the James Beard Foundation unveiled the 2024 semi-finalists, putting Houston's food talent in the national spotlight.

Among those recognized are Emmanuel Chavez of Tatemó, and Mark Clayton of Squable, both in the running for Best Chef: Texas. Victoria Elizondo of Cochinita & Co., and Thomas Bille of Belly of the Beast join the list, eyeing the same title. On the business end, Itai Ben Eli and Itamar Levy from Sof Hospitality Group scored a nod for Outstanding Restaurateur, according to an announcement by Fox26Houston.com. Over in East End, Nancy’s Hustle has been touted for Outstanding Restaurant, after having been nominated for a different category in the year prior.

Diving into the emergence of new culinary leaders, Ope Amosu, the talent behind ChòpnBlọk, has been recognized in the Emerging Chef category. His West African eatery, set to expand with a flagship location this spring, draws on rich cultural heritage to spice up Houston's dining scene. As reported by Eater Houston, the shelves of local bakery Koffeteria may soon need to make room for an award, thanks to their semifinalist spot for Outstanding Bakery, while Ema HTX's Stephanie Velasquez vies for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker.

Bludorn, under the leadership of Chef Aaron Bludorn, has captured attention and a nomination for Outstanding Hospitality. Houston's culinary scene shows it's not just about the meal, but the experience of dining that counts. In 2022, Julep garnered a nod for its outstanding bar program.

With a gala set for June 10 in Chicago, the list of semi-finalists will be whittled down to the final nominees come April 3.
