Earlier today, a 2-alarm blaze ravaged a commercial building just west of downtown San Antonio, reducing it to ruins within minutes. The inferno broke out near the Bexar County Pretrial Services building, resulting in the collapse of the structure's roof and several walls, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
The San Antonio Fire Department received an early call just before the 7 a.m. and promptly responded to the scene in the 800 block of Buena Vista Street, a location dangerously close to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. As firefighting efforts ensued, overwhelming flames illuminated the pre-dawn sky, visible even from the interstate.
A spokesperson for the San Antonio Fire Department, Woody Woodward, shared with KSAT, "firefighters managed to stop the fire at the front section of the building." The efforts to extinguish the remaining fire continued beyond the initial critical moments. Fortunately, one individual present inside the establishment at the time of the fire was able to escape unharmed.
The cause of the conflagration remains a mystery, with the nature of the fire making it "unlikely they'll ever be able to determine the exact cause," as mentioned by Woodward. The vicinity of the blaze is cordoned off, as emergency services remain on site managing the aftermath, contributing to traffic delays in the nearby I-35 at Cesar Chavez area.
