
A tragic collision in San Diego's Midway District claimed the life of a 65-year-old man Tuesday evening, authorities confirmed. According to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), the incident occurred near the intersection of Midway Drive and Sports Arena Boulevard.
The victim, identified as a male pedestrian, was attempting to quickly cross Midway Drive in the south crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. A 62-year-old woman driving a 2013 Chevy truck was heading northbound on Midway Drive and had a steady green light at the time of the accident. She collided with the man in the left northbound lane, the SDPD detailed.
No suspicion of DUI was indicated in the post-crash evaluation. The male was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. San Diego’s Traffic Division officers have since been called to investigate the collision further. The department has encouraged anyone with information to reach out and aid in the ongoing investigation.
Officer David Surwilo, a Community Relations Officer with the SDPD, conveyed the preliminary details of the crash and confirmed that the driver involved in the fatal incident stayed at the scene.
