A high-speed chase spanning from Hollywood to Long Beach concluded with the arrest of a suspect linked to a Lakewood shooting, officials said Tuesday. Police initially attempted to stop the car for a traffic violation, only to realize the vehicle was tied to an attempted murder on December 8, which the victim survived. According to CBS News Los Angeles, the pursuit commenced around 1 a.m. when the black Infiniti did not yield near the 101 Freeway.
The flight from justice led authorities through various streets and five freeways. It finally came to an end in Long Beach, where the suspect and an unknown passenger abandoned their vehicle and tried to escape on foot. The driver was found hours later with the help of a K-9 unit. However, the passenger remains at large, with their involvement in last month's attempted murder still unclear, FOX LA reported.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department had been on the lookout for the car and the suspect since the shooting incident. The black Infiniti was eventually towed away from where the suspects left it in the streets of Long Beach.
In a dangerous game of cat and mouse, it took several streets and freeways before deputies were able to successfully corner the suspect. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the capture was made possible only after intense efforts by multiple agencies, operating into the predawn hours to apprehend a person alleged to have nearly taken another's life.
