Alameda Police have cuffed three suspects tied to a string of robberies during the month of December, including two incidents that had locals on edge, one being an armed confrontation and the other a smash-and-grab. The first of these chilling events occurred on December 12, when assailants preyed upon three individuals seated in a vehicle on the 1700 block of Webster Street, brandishing a gun to forcibly claim their possessions.

The second incident, no less harrowing, played out on December 20 at the South Shore Center, where a patron, just having left a bank, was violently relieved of their belongings after their car window was shattered by the attackers. In what turned out to be a broader spree, these individuals were also said to be involved in additional Bay Area robberies. According to the Alameda Police report, "detectives collaborated with outside agencies and learned the same group was tied to additional robberies across the Bay Area."

With the culmination of investigations, police managed to track down three suspects. The first was apprehended on December 26, with the second following closely behind a day later. The final arrest, rounding up the trio, occurred last week. As the Lunar New Year kicks off, bringing a surge in cash handling, Alameda Police have heightened patrols in vulnerable spots like shopping centers and banks to deter similar crimes.

The department shared crucial safety tips to help citizens protect themselves. The reminder to "stay alert to your surroundings, especially after leaving banking institutions," and to "be mindful of individuals in parked cars who may be monitoring customers entering banks or businesses," aims to prevent the community from falling prey to predatory actions. If someone thinks they're being tailed, the advice is to not go straight home and instead to head to a public place or even directly to the police department. Maintaining contact with 9-1-1, if followed, is another key step shared by officials.

Alameda Police stress the importance of communal vigilance, urging people to report anything unusual. "We encourage everyone to look out for each other. Report any suspicious activity to the Alameda Police Department," the report added.
