Commissioner Julie Braastad is ready to take charge in Anoka County. Named chair of the Public Safety Committee at the board's January 2 organizational meeting, Braastad is also the new vice chair of the Transportation and Finance and Capital Improvements Committees. Braastad, representing District 2, isn't new to the game, having served the board for a decade. She's set to tackle her new roles with gusto.
Not only has Commissioner Braastad taken the helm of Public Safety, but her responsibilities stretch across a myriad of committees. In a move that reveals just how much trust her colleagues place in her expertise, Braastad's influence will be felt on bodies such as the Human Services Committee and the Intergovernmental and Community Relations Committee. She also brings her experience to the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) Public Safety Policy Committee and various other local authorities.
The workload is hefty, with the Commissioner also partaking in the Anoka County Regional Railroad Authority, and providing oversight in the community as part of the Board of Court-Appointed Attorneys. When it comes to the law, she's not on the base level—nope, Braastad's on the Joint Law Enforcement Council and the County Canvassing Board among others. As reported by the official Anoka County website, she has her hands full.
Reflecting on her extensive list of duties, Commissioner Braastad said, "I look forward to my committee assignments in 2024, and I’m proud to serve District 2 and the county as a whole on the Board of Commissioners." Her constituents will expect no less from her expanded role, promising to "preserve and enhance the services our residents expect of the county," her statement filled with the sort of certainty that her experience justifies.
