In a strategic move that's sure to shake up the college football scene, Jayden de Laura, the prolific quarterback out of Arizona, is set to don the maroon and gold of the Texas State Bobcats come 2024. The signal-caller unveiled his decision to transfer via social media yesterday, as reported by KSAT.
De Laura's tenure at Arizona was marked by impressive stats, including the third-highest passing yards in team history for a single season. Despite experiencing an ankle injury this past season that sidelined him after four games, the quarterback boasts solid numbers: 8,489 career yards, 63 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions. However, following his injury, freshman Noah Fifita took over the reins and propelled the Wildcats towards a laudable 10-3 finish and a No. 11 rank in the AP poll, as stated by MSN.
At Texas State, de Laura will be joining forces with returning quarterback TJ Finley, who previously played at LSU and Auburn. The Bobcats, under the helm of Coach GJ Kinne, have recently wrapped up a solid season, finishing 8-5 and boasting a national rank of 11th in scoring. Moreover, they savored the sweet taste of success in their first-ever bowl victory over Rice.
Before de Laura's stint at Arizona, he carved out a reputation for himself at Washington State, where he was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year in 2021. Having passed for 2,798 yards and 23 touchdowns during his time there, he helped the team reach the Alamo Bowl, marking an early highlight in his collegiate career. His shift in allegiances to Texas State suggests a fresh start for the quarterback whose collegiate journey has been anything but a straight line.
