The search for 76-year-old Donald Flory, an at-risk missing person from Lakewood, ended on a hopeful note as the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Flory had been located. The announcement came following intensive searching and widespread calls for public assistance. In their official statement, the Sheriff's Department expressed their gratitude towards the community, the media, and its deputies for their diligent efforts in ensuring Flory's safe return.
Earlier during the search, the authorities had described Flory as a white male, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing around 300 pounds, with distinguishing features such as gray hair, brown eyes, a beard, and two notable tattoos - a smoking skeleton on his left arm and "DON" on his right arm. Flory, who was last seen in the early hours of January 6, 2024, on Village Road, had set out possibly to drive his dark blue Ford F-150 with WY license plate #1T59405 towards Mission Viejo, the Sheriff's Department initially reported. They had turned to the public to help locate Flory, who was last seen wearing a light gray t-shirt, jeans, and a purple "DOCS" hat, accompanied by a silver necklace with a coin medallion.
The circumstances leading up to Flory's disappearance as well as his condition upon being found were not immediately disclosed.
The initial alert and the subsequent update about Flory's location were disseminated via the Sheriff's Information Bureau, highlighting the crucial role of coordinated communication platforms.
