Early Monday morning, a fire ravaged an apartment complex on Myrtle Drive in southwest Atlanta, resulting in one person being hospitalized. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6 a.m. after a blaze broke out in the basement of the building, as reported by FOX 5. The flames, fanned by their proximity to the gas meters, rapidly climbed their way to the first floor, threatening the lives and dwellings of residents above.
A total of four apartment units were engulfed by the fire. "The battalion chief told FOX 5 that four units were impacted," states the news outlet. Amid the chaos and smoke, one individual was overcome by the toxic fumes and required immediate medical attention. This victim was subsequently transported to Grady Memorial Hospital to undergo treatment for smoke inhalation.
As the fire department neutralized the threat, the investigation commenced to uncover the root of the inferno that disrupted the pre-dawn quiet of Myrtle Drive.
As per a report by Local Accident Reports, the inferno's origin and consequent material loss remain matters of ongoing inquiry.
