An Atlanta hair stylist, deeply moved by the devastation of a local apartment complex fire, stepped up to quickly organize a fundraiser for the affected residents. DL Norwood, a senior stylist at Van Michael Salon, partnered with the American Red Cross to hold a “cuts for a cause” event this past Sunday. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Norwood was spurred into action after witnessing the aftermath of the Reserve at LaVista Walk apartment fire that occurred in November, leaving hundreds without homes.
The November blaze, which was reportedly caused by individuals setting off fireworks on the apartment roof, resulted in the arrest of Charnelle Gunn and Robert Stokes, who now face charges that include reckless conduct and criminal property damage. Many of the complex's residents were left to reckon with the total loss of their belongings and are now in dire need of assistance. As mentioned on WSB-TV, some have turned to creating GoFundMe accounts to gather support amidst this crisis.
Norwood expressed his compassion and understanding of the situation, telling FOX 5 Atlanta, "I think it's just really crucial right now to just help out. Lend a helping hand," and adding, "I know what it's like to not have and go without. Those people just needed some comforting, and they lost everything," The American Red Cross has been actively involved, providing meals, shelter, and other necessities to those impacted by the fire.
"I couldn't imagine losing my stuff like that and not having anywhere to lay my head, and so I just felt like they needed a little bit of love and care and attention," he told FOX 5 Atlanta. In the aftermath of the fire, the local community has stepped up to generously support impacted residents as they strive to move forward and rebuild their lives.
